I remember playing with these as a kid so they are more than 50 years old. My grandmother owned inexpensive jewelry only and when I clipped them on my ears, they work well (hold well but do not pinch). I do not know what the blue stones are made of but they look "cut" like stones in jewelry are. In some pictures the metal looks a bit silver but, close up, it is a golden color, not silver. One clip has a scratch on the back (noticed only because I was taking pictures) that would not be seen while wearing.
