Made in the 1990s, this Chinese disk pendant features greyish-green jade accented with the Chinese character for blessing and butterfly prongs. The shiny sterling silver contrasts nicely with the subdued green jade. Jade is valued partly for its hardness, making it a highly durable piece of jewelry. Jadeite holds great value in Chinese culture and is believed to represent righteousness, beauty, and wisdom. Often called “the stone of heaven” or “yu” (royal gem), jadeite is believed to encourage the wearer to reach the highest spiritual level. The necklace is 22″ long, and the pendant measures 1 3/8″ tall and 1″ wide, weighing 6.90 grams. The box is for display only.
