This auction is for an extremely rare vintage designer (pre-1948) sterling silver flower motif pin/brooch/from Taxco, Mexico by famous Los Castillo. The pin/brooch measures approx. 1 3/4″ x 1 1/4″. Features two large cabochon amethysts approx. 12mm in diameter. Marked Mexico, Sterling, Taxco, Los Castillo, and # 710. Great vintage condition, some nice patina. Safe clasp. Great gift! No reserve! Hallmarks: Los Castillo, Taxco, Hecho en Mexico, #289, eagle 3″ Interesting Bits: Vintage, gleaming, 925 sterling silver MidCentury Modern handmade, slightly concave, Mosaic Aztec (design #289) swirl brooch created by renowned Taxco designer-silversmith studio – LOS CASTILLO, of Mexico. The brooch features inlaid rough rectangles of Azurite. A charming piece with a simplified form realized in a unique and pleasing brooch design. The brooch is in wonderful, gently worn, pre-owned condition, fully hallmarked, beautifully designed and expertly executed, very collectible and looks very pretty on. Los Castillo: Los Castillo is a highly respected design and silversmithing opened in 1939 by Antonio Castillo in Taxco, Mexico with his two brothers Justo and Jorge and cousin Salvatore Terán. His wife Margot de Taxco (Margot van Voohres) also worked in the studio until 1946. Antonio received his training working in William Spratling’s studio for 16 years. The work of the Castillo studio is known for beautiful Modernist married metal pieces (sterling, copper, and brass) and dimensional sterling jewelry and objects.
