Amazing and Rare Los Castillo Sterling Silver Angel Fish Brooch, a whimsical fish with great hand worked detail, chased fins, fluted tail, beads and a blue glass cabachon eye. Marked on the back Los Castillo Taxco Sterling Made in Mexico 349. The pin is in perfect working condition as show. This large brooch measures 2 1/4" from nose to eye and 3 1/4" from top fin to bottom. It appears one bead is missing. In 1939, Los Castillo was established in Taxco, Mexico by four brothers including Antonio Castillo. The brothers trained at William Spratling’s world-renowned studio. The Castillos developed exceptional talent in every aspect of silver design and production and eventually opened Los Castillo. Over its history, Los Castillo employed exceptional designers, including Antonio Castillo’s then-wife Margot van Voorhies Carr (Margo de Taxco), Miguel Melendez, and Sigi Pineda. The Castillo family is still in the silver business today.
